Bella Vita Garden Club

There are many health benefits associated with gardening and our very own Bella Vita Garden Club is getting to experience these benefits. After several weeks of thunderstorms and cold weather, the ladies in the club have finally gotten to dig in the dirt and get some things planted. So far they have planted snow peas, snap peas, cucumbers, spinach, two types of carrots, two types of beets, cabbages, broccoli, red, yellow and orange peppers, and (count them) 18 tomato plants.

They still need to plant okra, beans, radishes, squash, pumpkins, zucchini, yellow squash, watermelons, cantaloupe and some nice tall sunflowers. Susan VanDiest did a beautiful job planting pansies, zinnias and cosmos planted at the front of the garden… making it the prettiest of the community plots.

They have all discovered that gardening is much harder and more work than they remembered, but they are having a great time getting it all going. Not only is gardening great for exercise but there are also other know benefits including fighting stress, better mental health, and a lower risk of dementia. Also, if you take care of your fruits and vegetables, you can reap the nutritious rewards.

If you would like to join the gardening club there is still some room to grow a small patch of your favorite veggie. We would love to have you come and play in the dirt with us.
